About me

My name is Samantha Benson and I am an Alumna from the Michigan State University School of Clinical Social Work. I have clinical experience in various medical and mental health settings and I work primarily with adults who face challenges associated with Trauma, PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, Panic, ADHD, Life transitions, Grief and Loss.

I believe that each person has the strength and potential to grow, meet their goals, and regain control of their journey even when they face complex obstacles. I value a strength-based and person-centered approach to therapy.

When away from the office, I love spending time in nature, painting, singing, swimming, meditating, and spending quality time with her loved ones.

Why Starfish?

Starfish Psychological Services exists to help individuals overcome the pains of the past in order to feel more confident in conquering whatever their future holds.

Starfish symbolize regeneration, hope, guidance, and resilience due to their ability to regrow limbs and their star-like shape. They represent spiritual and celestial connection, symbolizing the interconnectedness of life and inspiring faith in one's journey through challenges.

Here at Starfish we believe that each person has the strength and potential to grow, meet their goals, and regain control of their journey even when they face complex obstacles. We value a strength-based and person-centered approach to therapy providing each client services tailored to their unique needs.

Here at Starfish we believe even a small difference makes an impact.

A young girl was walking along a beach upon which thousands of starfish had been washed up during a terrible storm. When she came to each starfish, she would pick it up, and throw it back into the ocean.

She had been doing this for some time when a man approached her and said, “Little girl, why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!”

The girl seemed crushed, suddenly deflated. But after a few moments, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference for that one!”
